For Church Leadership on Sustainability the Future is Sunny
Dorset, VT: On Sunday April 23rd, to commemorate Earth Day, the Dorset Church Green Team received a tour of a Grassroots Solar array on Route 30 that has begun powering the church with renewable energy. Net-metering allows the parishioner who owns the system to send all its energy credits to the Dorset Church utility bill, creating a win-win-win for the investor, the church and the environment. Pictured at right, Rev. Jim Gray performed a dedication and blessing of the panels, saying “Let there be light.” To Jim’s right stands Bill Laberge, lead installer for Grassroots Solar, with the Dorset Church Green Team.
Dorset, VT September 28, 2016 Grassroots Solar is pleased to announce an exclusive partnership with industry leader sonnenBatterie, Inc., an energy storage solution company. A dominant player in Europe, sonnenBatterie has recently entered the US market. The sonnenBatteries work with new or existing solar systems to store excess power, feed the household’s electrical needs when the power is out, and allow homeowners to reduce or eliminate their use of electricity from the grid during peak periods. sonnenBatterie has chosen Grassroots Solar of Dorset, VT as their only partner in Vermont and adjacent upstate New York.
The company’s mission is “to provide clean, affordable energy for all.” Bill Laberge, President of Grassroots Solar, says this fits perfectly with his company’s goals of giving customers energy independence by harvesting the sun’s energy. “Their back-up battery systems are among the best in the world, and we are honored to be their exclusive residential and commercial dealer in Vermont,” Laberge said. Each sonnenBatterie uses intelligent energy management software to automatically control solar energy consumption, storing excess solar electricity for use later in the day and providing backup electricity in the event of a utility outage. The batteries can also be charged with a standby generator, and may also be used with homes powered by the grid.
Founded in Germany in 2010, sonnen, Inc. opened their US operations in California in January 2016. With over 12,000 systems installed globally, sonnen is a proven leader in energy storage technology. They are designed in Germany and manufactured in California.
Grassroots Solar is the smart, local choice for Vermont and neighboring counties in New York. Grassroots represents and installs top end products including sonnenBatterie, SunPower panels and All Earth Renewable trackers. Working with The Tutorial Center
We always enjoy teaching our next generation about renewable energy and here we had some students from the Tutorial Center’s Youth Work & Learn program help us install this ground mount. They seemed pretty engaged.
Giving A Solar Demo at Burr and Burton’s Mountain Campus
I was invited to speak to students, at Burr and Burton Academy’s Mountain Campus, about energy. We had a really good discussion about a number of energy issues and, obviously, solar in particular. I set up a demonstration so they could see how the module converts DC into AC that we use in our homes. It was encouraging to see so many young minds being inquisitive and knowledgeable! It gives me hope for the world!
1st annual Celebrate Solar Tour
Grassroots Solar will be joining in the first annual Celebrate Solar Tours on June 20 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Celebrate Solar Tours will feature public tours of more than 40 solar systems of varying size throughout the state. The public will have the opportunity to get an up-close understanding of the technology, economics and benefits to the community. Open systems will be designated with roadway signage and many will feature music, refreshments or other entertainment. To learn more about the tours and find a location near you, click here!
Here at Grassroots Solar, Inc on Route 30 in Dorset, you will be able to see our panels, how they interconnect with the grid and how they provide power for our Electric Vehicle. We will have refreshments, maybe some sun tea!
Bill Laberge of Grassroots Solar, Inc. in Dorset has earned the solar industry’s leading recognition of installation expertise from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP®), and is now a NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional®. NABCEP is the most highly respected and well-established national certification organization for renewable energy professionals. Designation as a NABCEP PV Installation Professional is widely recognized to be the most important and meaningful certification of its kind in the solar industry.
PV is short for photovoltaic. PV panels can be configured to produce enough energy to power a home, school, business, or even serve as a small power plant feeding electricity into the grid. As the cost of PV systems has declined sharply over the last few years, more and more households, municipalities, and companies are “going solar.” NABCEP is a mark of quality assurance that the consumer can use to know that they are choosing a qualified contractor.
“Receiving NABCEP’s PV Installation Professional Certification is personally very satisfying,” said Laberge “More importantly, it means I can offer my customers the added confidence of knowing that their photovoltaic system installations will be completed to the highest standards in the solar industry.”
To earn his NABCEP certification, Laberge was required to first document relevant education and experience related to PV system installation. Then he had to pass a rigorous exam that covers the breadth of the multi-craft knowledge, skills, and abilities required to competently design, install, and maintain PV systems. The exam assesses knowledge on subjects as diverse as electrical and mechanical system design, job site safety, the National Electrical Code, roofing and construction techniques, and system maintenance and troubleshooting.
“One thing you can be assured of when hiring a NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional is that your project won’t be their first,” said Richard Lawrence, Executive Director of NABCEP. “Anyone who makes the considerable effort required to earn NABCEP certification has documented their training and experience as part of the eligibility process. They have also made a very real commitment to upholding high standards of ethical and professional practice. I am delighted to welcome Bill Laberge of Grassroots Solar to the ranks of the industry’s leading solar professionals.”
